Hi Friends! I’m Justyna, the maker and designer behind Lady Jay Crochet. I’m excited to be able to share one of my FREE designs here on Gianna’s Blog for this week’s edition of Little Red Knits Friday Freebies!

Before we get to the pattern, I’d like to share a little about myself and my business! I was taught to crochet by a family friend around 7 years old. I vividly remember my first makes being scarves, as well as rectangles sewn together to be purses for me and my dolls. I always knew that I would like to do something more with my craft, I just never imagined that would mean selling my stuff online or *gulp* designing patterns for others to hopefully enjoy!! But here we are, many years later! I love having this crafty outlet while I stay home with my 3 younglings.

I hope you enjoy this practical yet versatile stash-buster as much as I do. Happy crocheting, friends!

Mug Hug Trivet

-This trivet naturally curls to give your mug a little hug-

Mug Hug Trivet – Crochet Pattern By Lady Jay Crochet

MATERIALS

  • US I/5.50 mm hook, or hook needed to obtain gauge
  • Worsted Weight (category 4) yarn. Approximately 20 yards
    • I used Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice and Hobby Lobby’s “I Love This Yarn!”
  • Scissors
  • Measuring Tape
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

GAUGE

Designer’s suggestion: Since this is a small-scale and one-size project, you do not need check gauge beforehand. Rather, check after first 2 rounds of your trivet.

  • Height: 2 rounds DC sts = 1”
  • Length: 4 DC sts = 1”

TERMINOLOGY

This pattern uses standard US crochet terms-

  • CH = Chain
  • DC = Double-Crochet
  • St = Stitch
  • Sts = Stitches
  • SL-ST= Slip-Stitch

APPROXIMATE FINISHED SIZING

  • Total Diameter = 4.75″
  • Approximate Yardage = 20

PLEASE READ BEFORE STARTING: NOTES

  • SIZING: Pattern provides instructions for ONE SIZE. It fits mugs up to 3.5” in base diameter. To make larger: repeat Round 3 before ending with Round 5 instructions
  • YARN: I used Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice and Hobby Lobby’s “I Love This Yarn!”. Any worsted weight (category 4) yarn may be used for this project
  • GAUGE: Checking gauge throughout project is important to ensure finished product results in intended size. A finished diameter (length of circle) is provided to check your completed Mug Hug Trivet. Suggestion: Since this is a small-scale and one-size project, you do not need check gauge beforehand. Rather, check after first 2 rounds of your trivet. *Gauge was measured from a circular (worked in the round) swatch of DC stitches*
  • FIRST STITCH: First stitch is ALWAYS in the join stitch of the previous round, unless otherwise noted. The beginning chains of each row or round NEVER count as the first stitch
  • JOINING IN THE ROUND: Join is always a SL-ST to the first DC of the round

FINISHING

Cut your yarn, leaving a tail to weave in. Using your tapestry needle, secure all loose ends.

That’s it!  Make your favorite hot beverage and give your mug a hug with your new Mug Hug Trivet 😊.

NOTE: Blocking trivet to lay flat unnecessary – ends are intended to curl up or “hug” your mug.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

*Hand or spot wash as needed. Lay flat to air dry*
