Have you ever received a yarn subscription before?

Have you always been interested in the yarn subscription boxes like KnitCrate but haven’t pulled the trigger yet? I am sharing my experience with my first 3 months of receiving KnitCrate boxes and a free pattern that I created with their April box!

Shown here are April (blue), May (mauve), and June (grey). Each month comes with 2 skeins of yarn, a pattern book, and other little goodies like these cutie stitch markers!

The quality of each months skeins literally have blown me away. They’re are all soo soft, super high quality (silk, alpaca, wool, suri alpaca), and I am loving the colors.

Below you will find the free pattern for the lacey blue shawl, or you can head to my Etsy or Ravlery pages to get the inexpensive, add-free, printable copy!

First up is the mauve yarn from the May box, which is a DK weight chain construction. I am crocheting a light weight wrap with this but I’m not sold on the stitch pattern. I may switch it up to make it more airy for summer, but I’m totally digging this yarn!

Next is the June box featured these beautiful grey skeins. June’s crate yarn is so incredibly soft, worsted weight suri alpaca/cashmere blend, *drool* and I have 300 yards of it. I know we are in the middle of summer, but I’m thinking a hat and cowl would be so amazing in this!

Now without further adieu, I am pleased to share the Fine Feathers Shawl beginner lace knitting pattern with you. This pattern is made with the April KnitCrate, and calls for 300 yd or 274 m of Aran weight yarn. April’s box included 2 skeins of Celestial Yarn in the color Callisto , (90% Alpaca, 10% Tencel). Now let me tell you, this color BLUE me away (hehe see what I did there?), but the softness factor is off the charts. I have always loved Alpaca yarn so this one was for sure going to be turned into some sort of shawl or wrap. Being Aran Weight, which is a slightly heavier Worsted Weight Yarn), I felt that it would be best using slightly larger needles and a lacey pattern so that it could be worn even in warmer weather over a dress or tank top for a light layer, as well as wrapped tighter as the weather cools off in the fall and winter. Living in Michigan, you never know what the weather will be. You can experience all 4 seasons in the same week, (or day for that matter!), so lightweight shawls and scarves are always good to have on hand.

This beginner friendly design can be easily customized to fit your preference, and it is available for free, here on my blog!
