Please say hello to the Dahlia Scarf. I used one of my Knit Crate boxes to make and design the Dahlia Scarf. It uses less than 2 skeins of Audine Wools Bloom in the color Pansy by Knit Crate, which is a very soft and luxury DK Weight Yarn in a chainette construction.

Overview

The Dahlia Scarf is a lightweight and airy scarf that is a great layering piece to transition with you through the seasons. It uses basic stitches and a simple one row repeat, perfect for any skill level. Made with only two skeins of Audine Wools Bloom by Knit Crate, this yarn is incredibly soft and works up so beautifully, you will have a hard time taking it off!

Abbreviations

  • ch(s) – chain(s)
  • dc – double crochet
  • rep – repeat
  • sk – skip
  • sp – space
  • st(s) – stitch(es)

Special Stitches

  • V Stitch – (dc, ch 2, dc) all in one ch/ch sp

Materials

Approximately 442 yd or 404 m of DK Weight Yarn

  • Designer’s sample made with Audine Wools Bloom by Knit Crate, (80% Alpaca Wool, 10% Silk, 10% Camel)
  • US H/5mm crochet hook, or hook to obtain gauge
  • Scissors
  • Tape Measure
  • Tapestry Needle
  • Steamer or Blocking Mats + T-Pins (optional)

 

Gauge

  • 4” / 10 cm = 7 rows x 6 sts in V stitch pattern

 

Finished Size

  • Unblocked: 7” W x 70” L ( 18 cm W x 178 cm L), not including fringe
  • Blocked: 7.5” W x 75” L (19 cm W x 190.5 cm L), not including fringe

 

Pattern Notes

  • All Little Red Knits’ patterns are written in standard US terms.
  • Numbers at the end of each row indicate the st count.
  • Ch 3 at beginning of rows counts as dc st.
  • To make your scarf shorter/longer than size given, re[eat row 2 to desired length.
  • To make your scarf wider than the size given, increase your initial chain by a multiple of 2+2.
  • It is recommended to wet block your shawl for the best finished results.
  • Note that yardages are close estimate and assume proper gauge.

 

Pattern

Ch 22.

Row 1: V Stitch in 4th ch from hook, (3 sk chs count as 1 dc), *sk next ch, V Stitch in next ch. Rep from * to end, turn.

Row 2: ch 3, V Stitch in every ch 2 sp to last st, dc in last st, turn.

Repeat row 2 until your work measures 70” or desired length.

Cut yarn, tie off, and weave in all ends. Wet or steam block scarf for best finished results.

 

Fringe (Optional)

Using a 12” / 30.5 cm piece of cardboard or thin book, wrap extra yarn around and cut all on one side to create 24” / 61 cm long strands of fringe. You will need 72 pieces of fringe.

  1. Take 4 pieces of yarn and fold in half
  2. Starting with the foundation row, insert crochet hook into the same chain as your first V stitch
  3. Pull loop through stitch
  4. Pull ends of fringe through loop

Repeat steps 1-4 in every base of each V Stitch across on the foundation row. Then repeat this same step in every chsp of each V Stitch on the last row of your scarf.

When both edges are complete, gently steam block the fringe scarf to relax the fibers for the best finished look. Then trim fringe with sharp scissors for perfectly straight and beautiful finished edges.
