Get those mini skeins or holiday advents ready, because the Fade-Vent Shawl is here!

Are you always drooling over the mini skein sets that all of the fabulous yarn dyers are making lately? ME TOO! When Lisa from Hickory Lane Fiber Co. said she was going to create a mini skein advent calendar for 2020, I knew I had to get it! Lisa always has the most beautiful colorways, and I knew this was going to be no exception.

When I received her advent, (which was also my first ever!), I was blown away. The colors were different enough, but went together so beautifully, and the fade options were endless. I decided to design a shawl, because those are my favorite to make and wear, and the Fade-Vent Shawl was born.

Use more minis or full skeins to stash bust, make it as large or as small as you like – the options are endless. This beginner friendly design can be easily customized to fit your preference, and it is available for free, here on my blog!

Lisa always has updates so make sure to check out her website HERE, but this shawl can be made with as many or as little colors as you choose! Use partial skeins leftover from other projects or some special hand dyed yarn in a 3 or 4 color fade waiting for the perfect project? The color options are limitless with this pattern, and you can make it as small or large as you want.

Pattern Notes

  • This pattern uses the Griddle Stitch.
  • ch 1 at beginning of rows does not count as a sc st.
  • To make your shawl larger than the pattern dimensions, repeat rows 3 and 4 to desired length/width.
  • Each row will increase by 1 stitch, and increases on one side only. The numbers in parentheses at the end of each row indicate row count.
  • Your stitch count is the row number + 2.
  • You can use a stitch marker on the last stitch of the increase side for ease.
  • Every row will begin with a sc st.
  • You will carry your yarn up the rows for the color changes until you have completed all changes with that specific color. Cut yarn leaving a tail to either crochet over or weave in later.
  • Click HERE for a video on how to carry your yarn while you work.
  • You will be changing colors every 2 rows, and carrying your yarn to eliminate weaving in multiple ends when finished.
  • There is a color chart on pg 6 for easy reference.
  • Instructions within parentheses ( ) will be done all in the same ch/st.
  • It is recommended to wet block your wrap for the best finished results.
  • Keep in mind: your gauge, yardage used, and finished size may vary depending on the yarn you choose and if you make any changes to the pattern as written.
