  • ch – chain
  • hdc – double crochet
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • st (s) – stitch(es)

Materials

  • Approximately 160 yds Worsted Weight Category #4 yarn
  • Samples made with Wool Ease in the color Oxford Grey, Navy, and Forest Heather by Lion Brand Yarn
  • US I/5.5mm Crochet Hook, or hook to obtain gauge
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry Needle

Gauge

4” = 8.5 rows by 15 sts in hdc blo, unblocked and unstretched

Finished Measurements

Before Seaming and Closing: 10” x 19”

After Seaming and Closing: 10” x 9.5” laid flat

Beanie is made to fit average head circumference of 21-24”

Pattern Notes

  • ch 1 at beginning of rows does not count as a st.
  • To make your beanie shorter/taller than the pattern dimensions, decrease/increase your initial chain number as desired.
  • To make your beanie have a smaller/larger circumference, increase/decrease the number of rows as desired.
  • This pattern is worked in flat rows, and seamed together at the end to create a tube. You will then use the tail of your yarn to close the top of your beanie.
  • Keep in mind: your gauge, yardage used, and finished size may vary, (depending on the yarn you choose, or if you make your beanie larger or smaller than the pattern sample).

Pattern

Make a slip knot and ch 39, turn. (39)

Row 1: ch 1, hdc in second ch from hook, hdc blo in every stitch across, hdc last st, turn. (38)

Rows 2: ch 1, hdc in first st, hdc blo across, hdc in last st, turn. (38)

Rows 3-42: Repeat row 2. (38)

After row 42, you should have a rectangle that  measures 10” x 19.5”

Do not cut yarn.

Seaming

Fold the beanie in half with the first and last rows lining up. Sl st across, ensuring to go through the sts on both the first and last rows to create a tube.

Cut yarn leaving a 12” tail.

Finishing

Thread your tapestry needle using the tail, weave yarn through the top of the beanie, and pull tight. Tie off and weave in all ends. Turn beanie right side out and that’s it! Attach a label, button, or pom as desired.
