Please say hello to the Tullamore Throw. This design has been in my head since the beginning of the year and I am so excited to finally share it with you. The Tullamore Throw is a super chunky knit blanket with a textured border. It is 100% reversible with two completely different patterns on both sides. The best part you ask? This pattern is created using only Knit and Purl stitches! So if you’re a beginner wanting to practice your skills, or a seasoned maker looking for a relaxing project, this one is for you. My sample was made with Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick, a Super Bulky #6 Weight Yarn, so this cozy thing will fly off your needles in no time!

Overview

Knit a chunky and textured reversible blanket with a beautiful border using only Knit and Purl stitches. This beginner friendly pattern uses Super Bulky Weight Yarn, so this cozy blanket will fly off your needles in no time, meaning more time to snuggle under it when you’re finished!

Abbreviations

  • BO: Bind Off
  • CO: Cast On
  • K: Knit
  • P: Purl
  • PM: Place Marker
  • Rep: Repeat
  • St(s): Stitch(es)

Materials

  • Approximately 344 (632, 1015, 1490) yd or 551 (1013, 1625, 2389) g of Super Bulky Category #6 Weight Yarn
  • Designer’s sample made with Wool Ease Thick and Quick in the color Fisherman by Lion Brand Yarn
  • US 15/10mm Clover Takumi Circular Knitting Needles with a 48” cord, or needles to obtain gauge
  • Scissors
  • Tape Measure
  • Tapestry Needle
  • Steamer (optional)
  • Stitch Markers (2)

Gauge

4” / 10 cm = 4″ = 7.5 sts by 11 rows in stockinette stitch

If your swatch is too small, use a larger needle size. If your swatch is too large, use a smaller needle size.

Finished Sizes

  • 24” x 36” / 61 cm x 92 cm
  • 36” x 48” / 92 cm x 122 cm
  • 48” x 60” / 122 cm x 152 cm
  • 60” x 72” / 152 cm x 183 cm

  • All Little Red Knits’ patterns are written in standard US terms.
  • This pattern is written as follows: 24×36 (36×48, 48×60, 60×72).
  • Note that sizes are close estimates that assume proper gauge.
  • It is recommended to highlight your size and stitch/row counts to easily keep track while reading through the pattern.

  • It is recommended to steam your blanket when complete for the best finished results.

Row 1: P1, *K1, P1 to end of row. (49, 71, 93, 115)

Row 2: K all sts. (49, 71, 93, 115)

Rows 3-18: Rep rows 1-2. (49, 71, 93, 115 )

Row 19: P1, *K1, P1 6 times, PM, K 23 (45, 67, 89) sts, PM, P1, *K1, P1 to end of row. (49, 71, 93, 115)

Row 20: K to marker, P to next marker, K to end of row. (49, 71, 93, 115)

Row 21: P1, *K1, P1 to marker, K to next marker, P1, *K1, P1 to end. (49, 71, 93, 115)

Row 22: K to marker, P to next marker, K to end of row. (49, 71, 93, 115)

Rows 24-66 (98, 130, 162): Repeat rows 21 & 22. (49, 71, 93, 115)

Rows 67 (99, 131, 163) – 84 (116, 148, 180): Rep Rows 1-2. (49, 71, 93, 115)

BO on last K row, cut yarn, and weave in all ends. Steam entire blanket for best finished results.
